Rue de Javel wakes up slowly. A boulangerie two doors down, the 15e going about its Tuesday, and somewhere behind the rooftops, the top third of the Eiffel Tower.

Beaugrenelle is the working half of the arrondissement, more locals than lanyards. Walk ten minutes to the Champ de Mars, or stay closer and drift along Rue du Commerce for the small shops and terraces.

This one suits a family, or two couples travelling together — the kind of guests who want Paris nearby but a quiet street to come home to. The tower, framed just so at dusk, tends to be what they mention after.

Treten Sie vor die Tür, und die Seine ist zwei Blocks entfernt – die Straßenbahn summt am Quai entlang, vorbei an Joggern und Hundebesitzern auf den Rasenflächen des Parc André-Citroën. Die Gebäude hier stammen aus den 1970er Jahren – Glas und Stein statt Haussmann – und in den Erdgeschossen verbirgt sich, was auf den Postkarten fehlt: ein Monoprix, der bis spät geöffnet ist, eine Fromagerie in der rue Saint-Charles und die Métro Javel-André Citroën, fünf Minuten zu Fuß entfernt.

Für le matin lohnt sich ein Spaziergang zum Marché Grenelle unter dem Hochbahnviadukt der Linie 6 – mittwochs und sonntags: Austern aus Cancale, Brathähnchen, die sich über Schalen voller Kartoffeln drehen, und ein Blumenstand nahe dem Ende an der Dupleix. Danach einen Kaffee bei Ten Belles Bread in der rue Bréa oder an der kleinen Theke der Boulangerie Vialle, bevor man am Flussufer entlangschlendert – mit dem Eiffel-Turm als Rahmen für jeden Blick nach Norden.
