Lavie Maison: spa con sauna

The first thing is the steam — a private sauna and jacuzzi tucked into a ground-floor flat in Chartrons. Not what you expect behind a Bordeaux carriage door.

Two bedrooms, a deep bathtub, a kitchen that actually cooks. Single-level throughout, so the suitcases roll straight in. Sleeps six without anyone drawing the short straw on the sofa.

Step outside and you're a few minutes from the Marché des Chartrons on Sunday mornings — oysters, Cannelés, a glass of white before noon. The Garonne is a short walk; the Cité du Vin, the same.

It suits a family stretching out, or four friends who want the sauna after a day of tastings. What stays with you is the quiet of le quartier — antique shops, river light, and your own front door on the ground floor.

Al salir, las fachadas de piedra caliza captan la luz de forma distinta según la hora: dorado suave a las 8h, casi blancas al mediodía. Aquí la acera es ancha, los tranvías se deslizan en silencio por la rue Sainte-Catherine, y el aroma de la panadería de la esquina (canelés, mantequilla, un toque de azúcar caramelizado) suele acompañarte durante media calle.

Para un buen café, camina hasta la Place du Parlement y busca mesa en uno de los cafés que rodean la fuente. Pide un noisette y un canelé en algún comptoir cercano: este pequeño pastel acanalado, de corteza oscura y casi quemada y centro tierno con notas de ron, es la firma dulce de Bordeaux, y los locales son muy selectivos con la versión en la que confían.
