The staircase creaks a little on the way up to the second floor. Then the door opens onto twenty-two square meters of quiet, cool air — the AC humming even in August.

The kitchen is small but complete: dishwasher, coffee machine, wine glasses on the shelf. Blackout curtains do their job in the bedroom, and the linen is the good kind, heavy and cool against the skin.

Step out and you're a minute from rue Montorgueil — the market street where Parisians actually buy their oysters, their cheese, their Saturday flowers. Stohrer has been baking on that street since 1730.

It suits a couple, or a solo traveller who wants a base rather than a hotel. What stays with you is the ritual: coffee at the little table, then down the stairs into le quartier.

Sales a la calle y rue Montorgueil ya está despierta — el pescadero mojando el pavimento frente a Stohrer, un repartidor empujando cajas junto a Le Rocher de Cancale, el olor a mantequilla de L'Escargot antes incluso de tu primer café. Al norte del apartamento las calles se estrechan en Sentier propiamente dicho, donde los mayoristas textiles todavía sacan racks de muestras por rue d'Aboukir a las 8h.

Para el desayuno, evita la cola turística y acércate a Terroirs d'Avenir en rue du Nil — tres pequeñas tiendas (panadero, frutero, pescadero) que abastecen discretamente a la mitad de los chefs del barrio. Coge un pain des amis y cómetelo caminando. Si prefieres sentarte, la terraza del Café Compagnon en rue Bachaumont recibe la luz del sol hacia las once.
