Fifty square metres, air-conditioned — a rarer thing in Paris than it should be. Two bedrooms plus a sofa bed sleep six, and the terrace stretches the living space outdoors when the weather agrees.

The quartier is Épinettes, quietly residential, with the rue des Moines market a few streets away and the bakeries and cafés of rue Guy Môquet just below. Line 13 gets you to Saint-Lazare in eight minutes.

Good for a family, or friends spreading out over a long weekend. What stays with you is the terrace — those rooftops, that particular Parisian light in the late afternoon.

Al salir, la rue des Épinettes discurre tranquila bajo los plátanos — una panadería a dos puertas con cola desde las ocho, el verdulero colocando cajas de endivia, un viejo bar de zinc donde los habituales toman su café de pie antes de que el metro en Guy Môquet se los trague. La mañana aquí pertenece al barrio, no a los turistas.

Para no perdérselo: el marché Navier, los martes y viernes por la mañana en la rue Navier. Es pequeño — una docena de puestos, poco más — pero el ostricultor de Cancale se instala cerca de la esquina y te abrirá media docena para comer de pie, con un vaso de plástico de Muscadet, antes de que hayas decidido siquiera qué cenar.
