Les Épinettes is the 17e without the polish — cafés with paper tablecloths, the covered Marché des Batignolles two streets over, Montmartre a twenty-minute walk uphill through side streets no one photographs.

For a couple on a first Paris trip, or one person here for the week on work. Self check-in with a key box, l'équipe a message away, and a quartier that feels like it belongs to the people who live there.

Sales y estás en el lado más tranquilo del borde interior del périphérique — la rue des Épinettes se extiende larga y discreta, flanqueada de talleres mecánicos, una tienda de comestibles portuguesa, una floristería que saca cubos a la acera antes de las 8h. El metro en Guy Môquet zumba, pero nunca ruge. Los vecinos de toda la vida hacen cola en la panadería; los niños cruzan el Square des Épinettes en patinete. Se siente un barrio vivido, no contemplado.

Los sábados por la mañana, le marché des Batignolles se despliega a lo largo del boulevard de Batignolles — ostras abiertas al momento, una rotisería cuyas patatas se cocinan en la grasa del pollo bajo el asador. Llega antes de las 11h, vuelve caminando por la rue Lemercier con una baguette todavía caliente y entenderás por qué quienes se instalan en este barrio no suelen marcharse.
