The door opens onto the street — rue level, third arrondissement, the kind of block where the boulangerie queue spills out by eight.

Inside, a jacuzzi waits in the bathroom. Air conditioning hums through summer, the kitchen is fully kitted, and two bedrooms stretch across one easy single-level floor. Pets welcome, keys in a lockbox, arrive when you arrive.

You're in the Haut Marais. Walk five minutes to Marché des Enfants Rouges for Moroccan plates at lunch, or drift toward rue de Bretagne for natural wine and the slow café crawl that defines this quartier.

It sleeps six — a family with a small one (there's a travel cot), or two couples splitting a long weekend. What stays with you is the ease of it: bubbles running, a glass of something cold, Paris already underway outside.

Stap naar buiten en de straat is al wakker — de boulangerie op de hoek haalt zijn eerste fournée uit de oven, scooters glippen langs de groene luifels van Le Progrès, een man op pantoffels leest Le Parisien voor de tabac. Het Haut-Marais draagt zijn ochtenden ingetogen: gesloten galeries, de geur van koffie van ergens boven, het trage geschuifel van iemand die zijn hond uitlaat langs de rue de Bretagne.

Halverwege die straat ligt de Marché des Enfants Rouges, de oudste overdekte markt van Paris, open sinds 1615 en nog altijd de plek waar l'équipe gasten op zondag naartoe stuurt. Sla de lunchrijen over en ga in de ochtend — een koffie van het kraampje van Café Méricourt, een vijg en een punt comté van de kaasboer bij de achteringang.
