For a couple, or two friends sharing, with a small one in the crib. What stays with you is the steam from the sauna after a long day of walking Paris.

Stap naar buiten en je staat op de helling achter het Panthéon, waar de stoep afloopt richting de Seine en de ochtend ruikt naar boter uit de bakkerij op rue Mouffetard. Een paar studenten sleuren koffers omhoog, een bestelbus blokkeert een halve rijstrook, en de koepel vangt het licht dat de dag te bieden heeft.

Loop voor koffie omlaag naar Café Delmas op place de la Contrescarpe — neem plaats op het terras, bestel een noisette en kijk hoe de markt op rue Mouffetard zijn kratten oesters en Reblochon uitstalt. Elke ochtend behalve maandag, en de rotisserie-kip halverwege de straat is de lunch waar het hele buurtje het stilzwijgend over eens is.
