Stap naar buiten en het 16e arrondissement laat zich kennen in Haussmanniaanse kalksteen en stilte — brede trottoirs, een conciërge die om 8u aanveegt, een Mercedes met draaiende motor voor het kantoor van een notaris. De bakkerij op de hoek maakt een echte baguette tradition, en de tabakszaak aan de overkant loopt vol met mannen in goede schoenen die Le Figaro lezen voordat ze de kinderen naar school brengen. Dit is residentieel Parijs, het soort dat de bewoners voor zichzelf bewaren.

Voor de lunch of een trage koffie loop je naar de rue de l'Annonciation in Passy — een marktstraat die nog steeds als een dorp aanvoelt, met Boucherie Le Bourdonnec en een handvol cafés waar de obers de vaste klanten kennen. Bestel de jambon-beurre en eet hem op een bankje boven de Seine. Dat is de wijk in één middag.
