Step out of Guy Môquet metro and the first thing you hear is the rue des Moines market unpacking crates — oysters, radishes, a butcher calling out numbers.

Upstairs on the fourth floor, twenty square metres arranged with care: a sofa bed for two, a proper little kitchen with stovetop and oven, wine glasses waiting in the cupboard. Self check-in, so arrive when you arrive.

The quartier is Épinettes — quieter than Montmartre, a ten-minute walk from its back staircases. Coffee at the corner, boulangerie two doors down, a real neighbourhood rhythm.

Made for a couple travelling light, or a solo traveller who wants Paris without the postcard version. What stays with you is the market morning, and how quickly the studio starts to feel like yours.

Stap rue Guy Môquet op en je bent in het Parijs dat nog gewoon werkt — de visboer die om 8 uur zijn ijs uitlegt, het buurtcafé aan de hoek al drie koppen koffie verder, kinderen die op hun scooters door place Jacques Froment snijden. De gebouwen zijn lager hier, de lucht wijder. Je passeert meer buurtbewoners op slippers dan toeristen op sneakers.

Voor de markt loop je vijf minuten naar rue de la Jonquière op een dinsdag- of vrijdagochtend — kleiner dan Batignolles, minder gecureerd, betere prijzen. Haal een gegrilde kip bij de kraam vlakbij rue Lantiez en eet hem met je handen op in Square des Épinettes. Dat is de wijk, eerlijk gezegd.
