Forty-three square metres, cleverly folded: an open kitchen, a proper living room, and a mezzanine tucked under the eaves (ceiling 90cm — a nook, not a room). Air conditioning, a secure private parking spot, self check-in whenever you land.

Rue Montorgueil is a five-minute walk — the old market street, still lined with fishmongers and G. Detou for anyone who cooks. Stohrer for a baba au rhum on the way home.

It suits six who know each other well: a family, friends stretching a long weekend. What stays with you is the light coming through those old shop windows in the morning.

Stap naar buiten en de rue Montorgueil is al wakker — de visboer die de kinderkopjes schoonspuit bij Poissonnerie Soguisa, de geur van boter vanuit Stohrer op nummer 51, een man in een linnen schort die kratten witlof voorbij het terras van Le Compas rijdt. De voetgangershelling trekt je naar het zuiden, richting Saint-Eustache; naar het noorden gaan de metalen rolluiken van de stoffengroothandelaren van Sentier omhoog.

Sla 's ochtends de toeristrijen over en ga naar Terroirs d'Avenir op de rue du Nil — de bakkerij maakt een rogge-boekweitbrood dat de moeite waard is om mee naar huis te nemen, en de groentewinkel ernaast is waar de helft van de chefs uit de buurt stilletjes hun inkopen doet voor de service.
