It suits a family, or a group of friends who want to sleep eight without sacrificing the design. What stays with you is the soak — long bath, low light, Paris on the other side of the door.

Stap naar buiten en je staat aan de rustigere kant van de Sentier — groothandels in stoffen met half neergelaten rolluiken, een drukkersetalage vol papiermonsters, de geur van koffie die opstijgt van een toonbank waar drie mannen in schorten al aan hun tweede espresso zitten. De straten zijn smal, licht hellend, en zo geplaveid dat scooters er om 8u rammelend voorbijrijden.

Voor le matin loop je naar Terres de Café in de rue des Petits Carreaux — single-origin bonen, een serieus publiek en een croissant van Mamiche twee deuren verderop. Hier begint de hele autovrije strook van de rue Montorgueil: oesters bij Au Rocher de Cancale rond lunchtijd, natuurwijn bij schemering, en daartussen dat trage slenteren dat deze hoek van de 2e zo typeert.
