Zodra je naar buiten stapt zie je meteen de colonnade — de lange arcades van het Palais Royal direct aan de overkant, waar altijd wel iemand de zuilen van Buren staat te fotograferen of een Pierre Hermé-éclair op een bankje eet. De rue de Richelieu is 's ochtends rustig, de bouquinistes zijn nog niet open en de terrassen worden nog afgenomen met die typisch Parijse ernst.

Voor koffie loop je twee minuten naar Télescope in de rue Villedo — een smalle ruimte, één espressomachine, vaste klanten die de barista groeten. De zaak opende voordat Parijs zich druk maakte om flat whites en voelt nog steeds als het geheim van de buurt, ook al heeft de wijk het inmiddels allang ontdekt. Bestel de filterkoffie, drink hem staand, en zie de rue Sainte-Anne om je heen ontwaken.
