You're five minutes from Place des Vosges. Closer still is rue de Bretagne and the Marché des Enfants Rouges — pick up mezze at L'Estrellita or a coffee before the crowds arrive.

It suits a family or a group of friends who want the Marais without the Marais noise. What stays with you is the cour — the trick of stepping through a doorway and finding silence. L'équipe is a message away if you need it.

Stap naar buiten en je staat al op de rue des Francs-Bourgeois, die al aan de lunch denkt — de rij voor Chez Janou vormt zich nooit echt, die voor de falafel op de rue des Rosiers al wel. Een vrouw water haar geraniums twee verdiepingen hoger. Het Hôtel de Soubise staat achter zijn hekken alsof het de eeuw vergeten is. Kinderkopjes, een scooter, ergens de geur van boter.

Sla af naar de place du Marché Sainte-Catherine — een klein plein weggestopt van het lawaai, platanen, vijf of zes terrassen die elkaar aankijken. Kom 's ochtends voor een koffie voordat de tafels vol zitten; kom om 19u en het wordt het dichtst bij een dorpsplein wat de wijk kent. Bestel de œufs mayo bij Le Marché. Ze kosten vier euro en doen precies wat ze moeten doen.
