You're a few minutes from Rue Cler, the pedestrianised market street where the 7e does its morning shop — cheese, flowers, an espresso standing at the counter. The Invalides dome sits at the end of your block.

It's a space for two — a couple on a long weekend, someone here for work who wants to live like a local for a week. What stays with you is the soak after a day of walking.

Stap naar buiten en de rue Cler ligt direct voor je — de voetgangerszone waar vissers hun kraam opzetten voor 8 uur, waar fromagerie Marie-Anne Cantin haar Camemberts nog steeds rijpt in een kelder om de hoek, en waar buurtbewoners aanschuiven bij Davoli voor de truffelworst. Kijk omhoog tussen de gebouwen door en de gouden koepel van Les Invalides prikt zich af tegen de lucht.

Voor de ochtend is Café Central op 40 rue Cler het middelpunt. Zit buiten, bestel een café allongé en een tartine beurrée, en kijk hoe de wijk zijn boodschappen doet — gepensioneerde officieren in marineblauw jasjes, moeders met rieten manden, dezelfde ober die er al jaren staat. Het is de versie van de 7e die bewoners liever voor zichzelf houden.
