The Épinettes quartier is real Paris, not the postcard version. The rue des Moines market is a few minutes on foot, and Montmartre climbs into view once you're off the métro at Guy Môquet.

It suits two — a couple on a first Paris trip, a solo traveller settling in for a week. What stays with you is the neighbourhood itself: bakery in the morning, the walk home past lit café windows at night.

I palazzi sono più bassi, il cielo più ampio. Incontrerai più gente del posto in pantofole che turisti in scarpe da ginnastica.

Per il mercato, cammina cinque minuti fino a rue de la Jonquière un martedì o venerdì mattina — più piccolo di Batignolles, meno selezionato, prezzi migliori. Prendi un pollo allo spiedo dal venditore vicino a rue Lantiez e mangialo nello Square des Épinettes con le mani. Questa è la vera anima del quartiere.
