Step out and you're two minutes from Arts et Métiers, ten from the Marché des Enfants Rouges — where the Moroccan stall still draws the longest queue at lunch.

It's a nest for two: a couple on a long weekend, arriving late, leaving slowly. What stays with you is the cour — the quiet of it, after a day in the noise of Paris.

Basta uscire e il rumore è soprattutto quello dei passi sulla pietra — rue des Archives si restringe qui, la panetteria all'angolo richiama una coda già alle 8h, e la tabaccheria di fronte vende gli stessi biglietti della lotteria agli stessi clienti abituali da trent'anni. Qualche porta più in là, una porta verde si apre su una cour che ti sfuggirebbe con un battito di ciglia.

Per un caffè, fai due passi fino al Boot Café in rue du Pont aux Choux — sei posti, una facciata piastrellata rimasta dai tempi in cui era un calzolaio, e un flat white che vale l'attesa. Il sabato mattina, il marché des Enfants Rouges è a cinque minuti a nord: ordina le galettes alla bancarella bretone e mangiale in piedi.
