Push open the door on a quiet ground-floor street in the 5e, and the first thing you notice is the sauna tucked into the bathroom — a small, unlikely luxury for Paris.

Forty-five square metres, arranged with intent. A jacuzzi bath, a full kitchen for slow mornings, and windows with opaque filters that keep the street at arm's length while the light still gets through.

Outside, the Quartier Latin does its thing. Rue Mouffetard's market crowd, the bookshops around Place de la Contrescarpe, a coffee at Café Delmas before the day gets loud.

It works for a couple wanting a weekend of long baths and later dinners, or a small family who'd rather cook than queue. What lingers is the sauna at midnight, after everyone else has gone to sleep.

Entro le 8 i venditori di frutta impilano le cassette fuori dall'épicerie, il caffè all'angolo ha già il tavolo della terrazza asciugato, e qualcuno porta a spasso un cagnolino davanti alle rovine romane come se fossero una fermata dell'autobus.

Il punto di riferimento è Le Verre à Pied, un tabac con bancone in zinco a metà di rue Mouffetard che non cambia la tappezzeria dagli anni Sessanta. Ordina un caffè al banco, in piedi, un euro e venti — è qui che i commercianti del mercato fanno la pausa mattutina, e l'intera quartiere passa ancora di qui prima che i turisti la scoprano.
