Push open the door off the cour intérieure and you step straight onto teak floorboards, with exposed beams running above and a slice of old stone wall left bare. Fifteen square metres, and every one of them considered.

The studio is fully renewed in the Marais idiom — pierres apparentes, brick, plaster, the warm grain of teak underfoot. A leather sofa folds out into a proper bed, the kitchen hides a dishwasher and steam washer-dryer behind its small footprint, and a Bluetooth soundbar takes care of the evenings.

Arts et Métiers is the métro at the corner, with its copper-clad Jules Verne platform. Walk five minutes in any direction and you hit Marché des Enfants Rouges, rue de Bretagne, or the quiet lanes behind the Musée des Arts et Métiers itself.

It's a studio for two — a couple on a long weekend, in town for the galleries and the late dinners. What stays with them is the courtyard hush, two steps from one of the loudest, most alive quartiers in Paris.

Ao sair, o ruído resume-se quase a passos sobre a pedra — a rue des Archives estreita-se aqui, a padaria da esquina forma fila pelas 8h, e a tabacaria em frente vende os mesmos bilhetes de lotaria aos mesmos clientes do costume há trinta anos. A poucas portas, uma porta verde abre-se para uma cour que passaria despercebida num piscar de olhos.

Para um café, vá até ao Boot Café, na rue du Pont aux Choux — seis lugares, uma fachada de azulejos herdada dos tempos em que era uma sapataria, e um flat white que vale a espera. Aos sábados de manhã, o marché des Enfants Rouges fica a cinco minutos a norte: peça as galettes na banca bretã e coma-as em pé.
