Le quartier is the 17e at its most lived-in. The rue des Moines market runs a few streets over — cheese, flowers, a rotisserie chicken if you've given up on cooking — and Guy Môquet on line 13 puts Montmartre four stops away.

It suits a couple with friends visiting, or a small family passing through. What stays with you is the terrace, and the feeling of having a real Parisian address.

Saia à rua e o 17e mostra primeiro o seu rosto de trabalho: o tabac da esquina da rue de Lévis já aberto, uma fila a formar-se na padaria para a baguete da manhã, miúdos a cortar caminho pelo Square des Batignolles com as suas cartables. As fachadas haussmannianas suavizam-se por aqui — céu mais largo, menos turistas, mais cães.

De manhã, siga até ao Marché des Batignolles, no boulevard de Batignolles (sábado e domingo, biológico, do bom). Compre o frango do assador da banca junto à entrada, uma garrafa ao vendedor de vinhos naturais duas bancas adiante, e coma tudo de volta no terraço. Fim de semana resolvido.
