The quartier is Guy Môquet — working Paris, not postcard Paris. The street market sets up a few doors down, Montmartre is a walk uphill, and Place de Clichy hands you the métro when you want it.

It suits a couple, or four friends who don't mind a sofa bed, on a long weekend of bakeries and late dinners. What stays with you is the morning light, and the bread from the boulangerie downstairs.
