You're on Rue Cancera, a pedestrian sliver between Place du Parlement and Place Saint-Pierre. Coffee at Books & Coffee around the corner, oysters at the Marché des Capucins ten minutes south.

For a couple with friends, or a small family threading through le quartier Saint-Pierre on foot. What stays with you is the light through the glass — and the quiet of the tub after a day on the cobbles.

Stap naar buiten en de kalksteen vangt als eerste het licht — die bleke Bordeaux-gevels die rond zes uur 's avonds goudkleurig worden. De trams glijden op gladde rails voorbij richting Saint-Catherine, de langste winkelstraat van Europa, en de geur van de bakkerij op de hoek van rue des Remparts vermengt zich met espresso uit de zinken bars die om 7u al open zijn.

Zaterdagochtend, loop tien minuten naar de Marché des Capucins — de Bordelais noemen hem "le ventre de Bordeaux." Bestel een dozijn oesters uit Arcachon bij Chez Jean-Mi, staand, met een glas Entre-deux-Mers. Het is luidruchtig, de vloer is nat, en dat is precies de bedoeling.
