It suits one traveller, or two who like each other's company. What stays with you is the rhythm of the street — antique shops, espresso, river — just outside the door.

Stap naar buiten en de kalkstenen gevels van Chartrons strekken zich bleek en laag uit langs de rue Notre-Dame — antiquairs die koper poetsen in hun etalages, een wijnhandelaar die kratten naar buiten rolt, de tramklok van de quai een straat verderop. Het licht is hier anders dan in de Triangle: wijder, zachter, met de rivier net achter de daken.

Zaterdagochtenden zijn voor de Marché des Chartrons aan de quai, tussen de pont de Pierre en de Cité du Vin. Ga voor 10u voor oesters uit het Bassin d'Arcachon, een glas Entre-deux-Mers en brood van de bakkerij aan de rue Sicard. L'équipe vertelt je welke kraam de cannelés goed maakt — klein, donker, bijna verbrand aan de randen.
