Rue de Javel wakes slowly — a boulanger pulling up his shutter, someone wheeling a vélo out of la cour. From the window, the top of the Tour Eiffel signals over the rooftops.

Sixty-four square metres across two bedrooms and a living room with a sofa bed, so five can sleep without stepping on each other. A proper kitchen, a dining table that actually seats everyone, and self check-in for the late trains from Gare Montparnasse.

Beaugrenelle is a working corner of the 15e — the covered market on Rue Saint-Charles, the cinema at the mall, cafés where the regulars nod at each other. The Seine is a ten-minute walk; the Champ de Mars, fifteen.

It suits a family, or two couples splitting a long weekend. What stays with them is usually the same thing: turning the corner at night and seeing the tower catch the light.

Saia pela porta e o Sena fica a dois quarteirões, com o eléctrico a deslizar ao longo do cais junto a corredores e donos de cães nos relvados do Parc André-Citroën. Os edifícios desta zona são de vidro e pedra dos anos 1970, em vez do estilo Haussmann, e os pisos térreos escondem algo que os postais não mostram — um Monoprix que fecha tarde, uma fromagerie na rue Saint-Charles, e o Métro Javel-André Citroën a cinco minutos a pé.

Para a manhã, vá a pé ao Marché Grenelle, sob os viadutos da Linha 6, às quartas-feiras e domingos — ostras de Cancale, frangos no espeto a girar sobre tabuleiros de batatas e um vendedor de flores perto da extremidade do Dupleix. Tome um café a seguir no Ten Belles Bread na rue Bréa ou no pequeno balcão da Boulangerie Vialle, e regresse a pé ao longo do rio com a Torre Eiffel a enquadrar cada olhar para norte.
