Tritt hinaus, und der Hang der rue Mouffetard zieht einen fast wie von selbst hinunter — der Fischhändler spült seinen Stand schon um 8 Uhr ab, vor Le Petit Grain steht eine Schlange für Pain au chocolat, Sorbonne-Studenten eilen mit Espressos in Pappbechern hindurch. Das Pflaster unter den Füßen ist dasselbe, über das Hemingway in *A Moveable Feast* geklagt hat. Geht man in die andere Richtung, steht man an der Place de la Contrescarpe, bevor man den ersten Kaffee ausgetrunken hat.

Der Marché Monge (Mittwoch, Freitag, Sonntagvormittag) ist der Mittelpunkt des Viertels. Den touristischen Crêpe-Stand links liegenlassen und direkt zum Rôtisseur gehen — ein halbes Hähnchen, die Kartoffeln darunter in Fett und Rosmarin getränkt, gegessen zurück in der maison mit einer Flasche von den Caves Legrand. So soll ein Sonntag im 5e schmecken.
