Vor die Tür getreten, fällt zuerst die Kolonnade ins Auge — die langen Arkaden des Palais Royal direkt gegenüber, wo immer jemand die Buren-Säulen fotografiert oder auf einer Bank ein Éclair von Pierre Hermé isst. Die Rue de Richelieu liegt morgens ruhig da, die Bouquinisten haben noch nicht geöffnet, und die Caféterrassen werden noch mit jener typisch pariserischen Ernsthaftigkeit abgewischt.

Für einen Kaffee geht man zwei Minuten zum Télescope in der Rue Villedo — ein schmaler Raum, eine Espressomaschine, Stammgäste, die dem Barista zunicken. Es öffnete, bevor Paris sich für Flat Whites interessierte, und fühlt sich noch immer wie das Geheimnis des Viertels an, auch wenn das Viertel längst eingeweiht ist. Filterkaffee bestellen, im Stehen trinken, dabei zusehen, wie die Rue Sainte-Anne um einen herum erwacht.
