Step outside and you're minutes from the Chartrons market on Sunday mornings — oysters, white wine, the slow shuffle of locals. The Garonne is a short walk, the Wine Museum closer still.

A studio for one, or two who travel light. What stays with you is the neighbourhood — the antique shops on rue Notre-Dame, the café you'll return to twice.

Tritt man hinaus, trifft das Licht zuerst auf hellen Stein — die niedrigen, breiten Fassaden der alten Weinhändlerhäuser entlang der rue Notre-Dame, Fensterläden halb geöffnet, ein Lieferwagen, der sich an den Antiquitätenhändlern vorbeischiebt, die noch ihre Stühle aufstellen. Zwei Häuser weiter gibt es eine Bäckerei, die um 8 Uhr morgens die ersten Canelés aus dem Ofen zieht, und die Straßenbahn gleitet am quai des Chartrons entlang, ohne den Morgen je wirklich zu stören.

Sonntags entfaltet sich der marché des Chartrons entlang des Quais — Austern aus Arcachon, direkt vor Ort geöffnet, ein Glas Entre-deux-Mers vor elf Uhr, ohne dass sich jemand dafür entschuldigen würde. Komm früh, bevor die Menge aus Saint-Louis eintrifft. Wenn du nur einmal anhältst, dann bei den Nachbarn von Chez Alriq für die Austern; die Équipe dort weiß, welcher Erzeuger an diesem Morgen geliefert hat.
