Step inside and the bathroom gives the game away: a sauna in one corner, a jacuzzi tub in the other. Not what you expect from a ground-floor flat in Nice.

Two bedrooms unfold across a single level, with a private entrance straight off the street. The kitchen handles long stays — dishwasher, oven, proper coffee. The sauna handles everything else.

You're a few minutes from the pebbles of the Promenade, and closer still to the morning bustle of Cours Saleya, where the flower market spills out by 7am. Bring a tote.

Best suited to a couple bringing friends, or a small family travelling with the dog (he's welcome, just tell us). What they'll remember: stepping out of the sauna on a January evening, the sea air still on the windows.

Il suffit de sortir pour que la lumière fasse le travail d'abord — cet éclat niçois qui rebondit sur les façades ocre, l'odeur de la socca qui cuit quelque part sur une plancha, les scooters qui se faufilent entre les palmiers. La mer est à quelques rues, assez proche pour que l'on vérifie le temps à la couleur de l'eau plutôt qu'à son téléphone.

Le Cours Saleya est le point d'ancrage — marché aux fleurs jusqu'à 13h30, brocante le lundi, et la file chez Thérésa, dont le stand de socca avance plus vite qu'il n'y paraît. Commandez une portion avec un supplément de poivre, mangez-la debout, et digérez le tout en marchant sur la Promenade. L'équipe vous dira d'y aller tôt ; à midi, le marché se fait coude à coude et les belles tomates sont déjà parties.
