Ten square metres, and every one of them thought through. Light comes in low across the mezzanine, the kind of morning that makes you slow down before coffee.

The studio was gutted and rebuilt with a small footprint in mind — a tucked-away sleeping loft, a proper kitchen with oven and kettle, a bathroom pared back to essentials. Wine glasses in the cupboard, blackout curtains for late risers.

Les Chartrons wears its old wine-merchant bones well. Walk five minutes to rue Notre-Dame for the antique dealers, or land at Café Napoléon on a Sunday when the marché des Chartrons spills onto the quai.

It suits a solo traveller or a couple who don't need much square footage to feel at home. Self check-in, ground floor, pets welcome — arrive when you arrive. What stays with you is the light.

踏出门去，首先映入眼帘的是光线打在浅色石墙上的反光——Chartrons的旧酒商门面沿着rue Notre-Dame向北绵延，百叶窗半开着，一辆送货车在一家古董店外怠速停着。街道上飘来淡淡的咖啡香和河水的气息。每逢周日，quai des Chartrons沿Garonne河化身为一条悠然流动的集市，十一点前便有人在纸盘上现撬生蚝。

若想好好度过一个上午，可以步行前往rue Notre-Dame上的Cafés Pfaff——他们从七十年代起便开始烘焙咖啡豆，这里的浓缩咖啡朴实、醇厚、毫不矫饰。站在吧台点上一杯，再从隔两扇门的糕点铺买一块可露丽，这便是这片街区的节奏：小本买卖，比肩而立，清晨总是那些熟悉的面孔。
