Push open the door on rue Ganneron and you're already inside — ground floor, street-level, the morning sounds of the 18e arriving with you.

Thirty square metres, arranged simply: a living room with a sofa bed, the bedroom behind, and a bathroom with a whirlpool tub that does most of the work after a long walking day. Air conditioning, a proper kitchen, self check-in via the key box whenever you land.

Two minutes north sits La Fourche; south, the cafés around Place de Clichy stay lit late. Walk fifteen minutes uphill and you're in Montmartre before the crowds find it.

It suits a couple, a small family, or friends travelling light — up to five with the sofa bed. What stays with you is the quiet of the street in the morning, before Paris wakes up.

Step out onto rue Ganneron and you're between two Montmartres: behind you, the quiet stone wall of the Cimetière Saint-Vincent and the painters' lane of avenue Junot; ahead, the slope down to Place de Clichy and the back of the Moulin Rouge. Mornings smell of diesel from the rue Caulaincourt bridge and butter from the boulangerie on the corner of rue Joseph de Maistre.

Le matin, the small market on rue Lepic is the one to know — start at Coquelicot for a pain au chocolat that's almost too dark, then walk up past the fishmongers and the cheese shop at number 60. It's the route Amélie took, which everyone mentions and no one minds.
