Outside, rue Guy Môquet does its thing — bakeries, a street market, the small cafés locals actually sit in. Montmartre is a walk up the hill; Place de Clichy, a few stops on the 13.

It suits a couple, or four friends willing to share the sofa bed, staying long enough to get a favourite boulangerie. What they'll remember is the quiet — a real Parisian quartier, not a postcard.

Step outside and it's rue Guy Môquet doing its quiet weekday choreography — the queue at Boulangerie Alexine before 8h, a butcher rolling out his awning, two men arguing gently over parking near the métro. The Épinettes still feels like a village that forgot to become expensive: low buildings, wide sky, kids cutting through Square des Épinettes on scooters.

For the ritual, aim for the marché des Batignolles on Saturday morning along rue Lemercier — oysters shucked on the pavement, a rotisserie chicken you'll eat with your hands back at la maison, and a florist who wraps ranunculus in yesterday's Libération. Go early. By 13h the good bread is gone.
