Step out onto rue Guy Môquet and it's still a working Paris — the fishmonger at number 23 hosing down his tiles by 8h, the old café-tabac on the corner where pensioners nurse a ballon de rouge next to bike couriers waiting on an order. The buildings are lower here, the sky wider, and the metro entrance sits in the middle of it all like a village fountain.

Le matin, walk five minutes to the marché des Batignolles on boulevard des Batignolles — Saturdays only, entirely organic, and worth it for the rotisserie chicken alone. Get there before 11h, eat it later in the square Boulay-Level with a bottle from the caviste on rue Lemercier.
