Rue Cancera runs pedestrian and narrow just outside — a two-minute wander to the Garonne, five to the cafés spilling onto Place du Parlement, ten to the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins.

A couple with kids, or four friends on a long weekend in Bordeaux. What stays with you is the tub, and the quiet of a street where no cars pass.

Step outside and the pale limestone catches the light differently than the rest of the city — narrower streets here, worn flagstones, the smell of coffee drifting from Place du Parlement before the fountain is even switched on. A waiter drags chairs across the square. Someone leaves the boulangerie on rue des Bahutiers with a baguette tucked under one arm.

Le matin, head to Place Saint-Pierre itself, where the twice-weekly market sets up around the church. Or slip into Books & Coffee on rue de la Devise for a flat white and a battered paperback — the sort of place l'équipe sends guests who ask where locals actually go before the shutters lift on rue Sainte-Catherine.
