Best for a couple, or two friends sharing, who want the quartier latin without the tourist churn. They'll remember the sauna — and the fact that they used it more than they expected.

Step out and you're on the slope behind the Panthéon, where the pavement tilts toward the Seine and the morning smells like butter from the boulangerie on rue Mouffetard. A few students drag suitcases up the hill, a delivery van blocks half a lane, and the dome catches whatever light the day offers.

For coffee, walk down to Café Delmas on place de la Contrescarpe — sit on the terrace, order a noisette, and watch the marché Mouffetard set up its crates of oysters and Reblochon. It runs every morning except Monday, and the rotisserie chicken halfway down the street is the lunch most of le quartier quietly agrees on.
