Cross one street and the Eiffel Tower edges into view between rooftops. Aim for rue Cler in the morning. It's a market street the locals actually use — Davoli for Italian charcuterie, Café du Marché for a coffee standing at the zinc, and the cheesemonger who'll cut you a wedge of Comté aged exactly as long as you ask. Go before 11h, when the rhythm still belongs to the quartier rather than the cameras.
