Morning light falls across the parquet, the iron lattice of the Eiffel Tower visible from your window like a familiar neighbor you never expected to have.

Step outside and you're in the quiet grid between the Tour Eiffel and the Musée Rodin, where locals walk small dogs past the boulangeries on rue Cler and the cafés still put their chairs on the pavement by nine.

Step out and the rue Cler is already awake — the fishmonger hosing down the pavement, an old couple choosing peaches at Davoli's, the smell of butter from the boulangerie three doors down. Cross one street and the Eiffel Tower is just there, framed by a Haussmannian rooftop, almost embarrassed to be so close.

For le matin, walk to Café Central on rue Cler and order a noisette at the bar — standing, two euros, the way the regulars do it. The waiters won't smile until your third visit, and that is precisely the point. Stay for the second one and watch the quartier do its shopping.
