Step out and the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré does its quiet morning choreography: a porter wheeling boxes into Hermès, the scent of warm butter from the bakery on the corner, two men in suits arguing politely over a double espresso at the counter. The pavements are narrow, the doorways gilded, and by 10h the queue at Ladurée has already formed.

For le matin, skip the grands cafés and walk to Café Verlet on rue Saint-Honoré — they've been roasting beans since 1880, and the Moka d'Éthiopie is worth the small ceremony of ordering at the bar. Bring it back to la maison, or drink it standing, the way the regulars do.
