Lavie Maison: Paris A/C Retreat

Twelve square metres, second floor, and the first thing you notice is the quiet hum of proper air conditioning — the kind Paris apartments almost never have.

The studio pairs a fully kitted kitchen with four-star linen and wine glasses waiting by the sink. Small, yes. But every surface earns its place, and the summer nights stay cool.

Step outside and rue Montorgueil is a two-minute walk: the oyster stalls at L'Écailler, morning croissants from Stohrer, the flower shop that spills onto the pavement. Sentier hums, then sleeps.

It suits two people on a long city weekend — a couple who want to cook once, walk everywhere, and come home to a room that actually breathes in August. That's the part they'll talk about later.

Step out and rue Montorgueil is already awake — the fishmonger at Terroirs d'Avenir hosing down the pavement, Stohrer's window stacked with baba au rhum since 1730, scooter riders threading between café terraces that spill halfway across the pedestrian street. Turn the other way and you're in Sentier proper: narrow passages, textile wholesalers rolling racks of jersey, the smell of coffee from a doorway.

For le matin, skip the queues and go to Terres de Café on rue des Petits Carreaux — a flat white, a kouign-amann from the counter, and a stool by the window. It's where the neighbourhood's tech crowd and the last of the old Sentier tailors overlap for ten minutes before the day starts properly.
