Inside, two bedrooms unfold across a single level. The bathroom is the surprise: a jacuzzi tub and a sauna, tucked in for the end of long walking days.

Grosso sits between the sea and the rail line, a neighbourhood of boulangeries and small tabacs rather than postcards. Rue de France carries you east toward the Promenade in fifteen minutes on foot.

It suits a couple travelling with friends, or a family with a small one (there's a travel cot). What stays with you is the ritual — beach in the morning, sauna before dinner.

Step out and Grosso feels residential in a way the Promenade never does — the wide leafy stretch of boulevard Gambetta running south, a pharmacy with a green cross that's been blinking since the seventies, and the tram gliding past every four minutes toward Libération. The buildings are belle époque with wrought-iron balconies, and the mornings smell like coffee from the corner brûlerie before the shutters even lift.

Walk ten minutes north to the marché de la Libération on avenue Malausséna — Tuesday through Sunday, and worth the detour on a Saturday when the socca vendor sets up near the flower stalls. Order it hot off the copper pan, standing, with a paper cone of black pepper. It's where Niçois actually shop, not tourists, and l'équipe will point you to the right cheesemonger.
