Push open the door on a quiet Latin Quarter street and the first thing you notice is the sauna — cedar-warm, tucked into the bathroom like a small private secret.

Forty-five square meters, cleverly folded into three sleeping spaces and a jacuzzi bath for the slow end of the evening. The kitchen is open and properly kitted; the living room converts when the group grows to nine. Opaque window filters keep the street at arm's length.

You're a few minutes from rue Mouffetard, where the morning marché spills oysters and cheese onto the pavement and the café tables never quite empty. The Jardin des Plantes is the other direction, for slower mornings.

Order a café at the counter, standing, one euro twenty — this is where market traders take their morning break, and the whole quartier still passes through before the tourists find it.
