The building opens onto an inner courtyard — that small Parisian pause before you climb one flight of stairs and shut the door on the city.

Thirty-five square metres, arranged around a living room and a properly kitted-out kitchen: dishwasher, washer, dryer, coffee machine, wine glasses waiting on the shelf. A double bedroom, a sofa bed in the living room, and enough for four to land softly.

Sentier is loud in the best way. Rue Montorgueil is five minutes on foot for the morning croissant and the evening oysters, and Passage des Panoramas is closer still when the rain starts.

Best for a couple, or friends stretching a long weekend across Paris Centre. What stays with you is the quiet of la cour after a day in the noise.

Step out and it's the rag trade at full tilt — rolling racks of unsold blouses being pushed down rue d'Aboukir, the whine of a sewing machine through an open window, a printer on rue du Caire still hand-stencilling shirt boxes. By 8h the coffee queue at Télescope on rue Villedo has already spilled onto the pavement, and the fabric wholesalers are unlocking their shutters.

For lunch, walk five minutes to Passage du Grand-Cerf — a glass-roofed 1825 arcade where Le Pas Sage does a €26 lunch under the ironwork. Come for the light through the verrière as much as the plate; the passage empties out by three and it's the closest le quartier gets to holding its breath.
