Step out and the rue Cler is right there — the pedestrian stretch where fishmongers set up before 8h, where the fromagerie Marie-Anne Cantin still ages her Camemberts in a cellar around the corner, and where locals queue at Davoli for the truffled saucisson. Look up between the buildings and the gold dome of Les Invalides pins itself against the sky.

For le matin, Café Central at 40 rue Cler is the anchor. Sit outside, order a café allongé and a tartine beurrée, and watch the quartier do its shopping — retired officers in navy blazers, mothers with cane baskets, the same waiter who's been there for years. It's the version of the 7e that residents keep to themselves.
