Step out onto rue Guy Môquet and it's immediately clear this is where Parisians actually live — mothers wheeling strollers to the crèche, the fishmonger hosing down the pavement, the boulangerie at the corner of rue Davy with a queue that moves fast. The Batignolles hum is a few blocks south; up here, it's quieter, more working-class, more real.

Le matin, aim for the marché Navier on Thursday or Sunday — a tight two-street affair with a rôtisserie that draws a line by 11h. Get a half-chicken and the potatoes cooked underneath in the drippings. Eat them warm on a bench in square des Épinettes, ten minutes down the road.
