A boulangerie somewhere on the block is pulling its second batch; the woman walking her dog has a baguette tucked under her arm like a newspaper. Scooters lean against the bollards. Someone is unlocking a wine shop with a very small key.

For the morning ritual, find the Marché des Capucins — open Tuesday through Sunday, busiest before 10h. Locals call it "le ventre de Bordeaux," and they mean it: oysters from Arcachon shucked at the counter, a glass of Entre-deux-Mers, elbows on zinc. Order the dozen n°3 with rye bread and butter. It's how the city wakes up on Sundays.
