Rue de Javel wakes up slowly. The bakery on the corner opens first, then the café tables, then the footsteps heading down toward the river.

Forty-five square metres, first floor, walk-up. A double bed behind blackout curtains, a sofa bed in the living room, a kitchen kitted out for actual cooking — oven, dishwasher, wine glasses on the shelf.

Beaugrenelle is five minutes one way for the shopping centre and cinema. Parc André Citroën is five the other, with its tethered balloon rising over the Seine on clear afternoons.

It suits four — a couple with kids, or friends stretching out a long weekend. What stays with you is the walk home along the river, the Eiffel Tower going gold at the top of the hour.

Step outside and the Seine is a two-minute walk west, past the tall glass towers of Front-de-Seine and the small joggers' path that hugs the quai. The 15e wakes up slowly here — a boulanger pulling shutters on rue Linois, the tram sliding along the river toward Javel, a queue forming at the Franprix before the school run.

For a proper morning, head to the marché Grenelle under the elevated métro on boulevard de Grenelle (Wednesdays and Sundays). It's a market Parisians actually shop at — rôtisserie chickens turning by 10h, a fishmonger who'll fillet on request, and a Lebanese stand near the Dupleix end that does the best falafel-to-euro ratio in the arrondissement.
